Messy with life: today's special

A snapshot into our weekend:

Hair cut!!

Tirzah's first fall... and cut.  Absolutely so brave though!

Part of Daniel's Special Day was take out from Country's BBQ.  I think Tirzah enjoyed it even more than her Daddy!  She enjoyed the taste but absolutely LOVED discovering the feel of baked beans and corn on the cob all over her little body.  She would grab a handful, look at us "Can I really do this?!" and then just revel in the delightful mess of this day called LIFE.

Tirzah fell and hit her left eyebrow... then Daniel had a war wound from the battleground of the weight room yesterday... on his left eyebrow too!  Just alike these two.

Saturday was Daniel's Special Day.

It was his idea for these days; days filled with all things love and delight.  Days spent doing what the Specialee desired.

Saturday was Daniel's Special Day and how truly delightful it was.

I was thankful for the silent anticipation of the day as I quietly made preparations downstairs before anyone awakened.  A trip to Krispie Kreme began the day and upon returning the table was set and the tray was laid.

His inaugural breakfast in bed came first.  The tray with freshly cut Holly berries, beheld a red mug of steaming coffee and a laced china plate topped with a donut.  A newspaper, albeit 3 days old was tied with ribbon, along with the index cards displaying the activities of the day:

Reading & a nap
Pizza & ESPN3
Take Out Country's BBQ
Exercise
Marble Slab & the LSU vs Alabama Game

As I look back to Saturday, I remember and feel once again the anticipation, the giddiness, the excitement of the morning.  And isn't that how every morning should feel?

God has made each day a special day for us.  It is HIS idea, these special days.  Days beholding beauties, treats, and moments for us to unwrap and enjoy.  Just for us.  Just for me.  Just for you.  So that my heart might believe and the eyes of my soul might slow to see:

"In your book were written every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there were none of them" Psalm 139:16

He has formed this day for us; for me; for you.  Custom made. Knowing, like the nail that pierced his hand, our every thought, word, delight, demise- every little detail that makes our heart alight- like raffia ribbons tied into bows or like her dancing blue eyes beckoning me to see.  Knowing these intricate details of my being, HE formed this day special for me if I would but quiet to offer my ears, my eyes, and my praise.

Me, finite me, not only delighting in dwelling upon Daniel's favorites, but also knitting them into the fabric of his special day, how much more does He, our Infinite Beauty, the Giver of all good gifts, delight in forming our days into all that is special and good... for us?

Today is a special day.  May your heart soften and your eyes light to see and to behold.
