Beholding Nature

It is sort of funny, this morning, living in a beautiful new house yet finding myself sitting inside the car outside of Starbucks, to steal their internet... oopsies!  But, as of yet, we have not purchased internet access and so to steal away for just a touch of time, I came to this store just right up the road to use the internet.  Funny too, I am unwilling and too cheap to go in the actual store to use the internet for fear of having to purchase a drink.  Funny, how much I pray the Lord will change in me in this next year!

But I had to steal away to write and tell of the beautiful gifts of yesterday.  Let me start with an unwrapping of this morn: look at this stunning view of Mt. Rainier!  I pulled out onto the main drive in DuPont and exclaimed aloud when I beheld this gift!

Today, as was yesterday, is a sunny day in Washington and oh how my spirits are lifted!  Just glorious.

To take full advantage of the sunshine yesterday, we three set out on an adventure to find the water's edge. One of the aspects of our neighborhood that I appreciate the most is the 22 + miles of walking trails.  It is a walker's heaven!  Yesterday afternoon we found ourselves upon one of these trails that we had ventured on before our trip to Canada.  Except this time, we veered off to make a path of our own.  Let me just say, it was steep and by the time we finished, we were absolutely covered in fern seeds.  But it was breathtaking.  Tirzah was on Daniel's back and was thoroughly enjoying her ride.  In her little "starfish" outfit, as Auntie Danae named it, she was happy as a little lark, singing through the wilderness.

Our path led us down the steep slope to a little valley below, then up a side of the slope, over railroad tracks, and then back down a yet steeper slope to the rocks of the Sound's beach.  My, to stand upon the rocks at the water's edge and to breathe deeply in the salty ocean air was worth it all.  (Did I mention we weren't supposed to be there?!)  The feeling of standing on rocks, probably left untouched for some long amount of time was indescribable.  Rocks smooth as finished marble and as intricate as a rose in full bloom.    What gifts.

Gingerbread recipe to come on the next post... I am just about to run out of computer battery while I sit outside Starbucks... but I just had to write.

Have a wonderfully happy New Year!  May blessings abound to you and yours
