It was on Sunday that this occurred, Daniel's boss, his Company Commander, stepped on a roadside bomb. Captain Klein has lost both of his legs and an arm. He has had several surgeries already in Afghanistan and they are waiting for him to become more stable so he is able to fly to Germany where his wife will meet him. Last I heard today, Cpt. Klein was critical, but stable. His wife is named Jess and they have no children.
As you can imagine, things have been quite hectic for Daniel and for the rest of his company. Along with the Klein family, will you please pray for Carite, one of Daniel's friends who has taken on the responsibility of Company Commander, and will you please pray for Cherry, another of Daniel's friends who has taken on the responsibility of Executive Officer. As Daniel said, "their new responsibilities are overwhelming and they have been thrown into these jobs prematurely."
They need such prayer!
I hadn't heard from Daniel in over a week, but thankfully, I received an email from him this morning. For some reason, he and his men are living and will continue to live in their Stykers for several more weeks. Can you imagine that? Those vehicles are indeed huge, but not large enough to have several grown men living and sleeping in them day in and day out! Pray!!
Another aspect of change that has happened over the course of two days time, I have been asked to be the new FRG leader for our company. The FRG, otherwise known as the Family Readiness Group, is a part of each unit and allows the spouses and families to be involved together. It is largely, also, a place where the families can get information. The job was passed on to me because Daniel is the only Lieutenant in the company with a wife! I definitely feel overwhelmed with the task, but my heart is in a place where I would like to help the families in any way that we can. A disaster has befallen our unit and everyone must step up so that we can get these men home safely. But still, I would like your prayer to know exactly what it is that I need to be doing!
And yet. With a sort of numbness of soul and at some moments a weary spirit, we are still called to give thanks and I will still fight for joy and fight for things to be thankful for, things to love, even through the midst of confusion and heartache and sorrow. Thus. . .
What I'm LOVING today
LOVING meeting a friend and her 2 boys for coffee this morning. We met at this great spot called the Frog n Kiwi cafe and the idea is absolutely brilliant! It is a coffee shop with a huge playground room for the children! With cute little tables in the corner, Mamas can sit and chat while the children play with hundreds of toys, a big rock wall, and a huge wooden playground set. So smart.
LOVING making these granola bars this evening. So.darn.good. chewy pumpkin spice granola bars
LOVING talking with Hopie twice today
LOVING that we only have 2 more wake ups until Marlene arrives for her week long visit!
LOVING babysitting baby Elias today. LOVING his sweet little 6 month old smile and the way his arms flailed over being excited about the small things, like our old fashioned scale!
LOVING Tirzah's reaction to seeing baby Elias in my arms when we went to get her from her nap
LOVING the sunshine breaking through the clouds of morning rain
LOVING friends that pray
LOVING getting 40 pounds of apples on Tuesday from our Co-op (ready set applesauce!) and also 50 pounds of wheat berries! (I haven't been grinding as much flour with my husband away... but he is coming home so soon!)
LOVING completing 6 months of deployment. . TODAY!!
LOVING: God-our REST as the new focal thought for this seventh month of deployment
Tirzah is still LOVING vacuumming! (Mama is LOVING that she LOVES it too!)
and always and forever I am LOVING my husband and our hero, Daniel Roberts Shear

This is me... giddy with excitement because I have just been kissed and made HIS bride! |
Praying with you Fawn. It is strange because I went to bed with you and Daniel and Marlene and Greg on my mind last night. I shouldn't say it was strange, just the sweet Holy Spirit reminding me to pray for my friends. And you are more than ready to step into the spouse's position you have been asked to take on; those families will love having you come alongside them. Keep looking up, Fawn. Before you know it, your husband will be back by your side, and oh the sweeter it will be.
