It was my most wonderful husbands birthday yesterday: 25 years old. How thankful I am for the gift of his life! Life that has blessed me, life that has changed my own life.
It was a simple celebration, simple in the sense that it was just at home, and just the three of us. But it was abundant in joy and on tenderness as we recalled celebrating his birthday apart last year, separated by nine long months of deployment. How thankful we were to celebrate again together!
Daniel was home by 4: such a birthday treat! He was greeted by a Mama duck and her 8 little ducklings and Tirzah took him around the house on a shopping adventure (her absolute favorite pastime these days. Laden in high heels and sunglasses...)
We continued the celebration with an abundant meal:
Fresh king salmon soaked in soy sauce and rubbed with butter and brown sugar and broiled for just a few minutes.
Pearled couscous with lemon juice and fresh parsley and chives from the garden.
Freshly baked bread.
Local asparagus roasted with olive oil and salt and pepper.
Greens from the garden.
Fresh eggs whipped into Martha Stewart's one bowl chocolate cupcakes which were loaded with vanilla frosting and sprinkles.
Homemade elderflower champagne.
There was such tenderness and a few tears as Tirzah and I turned off the lights, lit his candles, ad sang to him. A birthday cupcake on a pink plate with two candles.
So sweet. So simple. So perfect.
Happy birthday Daniel!
