So, Manna Monday, on a day late
These moments of grace, of mystery, of manna, have been like "honey to the lips" and have nourished us:
Tirzah's 3 hour morning nap yesterday
Cleansing tears
Emails of encouragement received
Walk with God devotional reading (Jan 16)
Family serving together:
making homemade pizza with 5 children
Watching them sip root beer floats for the first time
The snow! Inches and counting...
Sleeping in
Waking to a winter wonderland
No two snowflakes are alike
FaceTime with 2 beautiful women (Great Aunt Deba and Marlene)
This morning from our front porch! |
Moments from the kitchen that have nourished
What's baking today
2 loaves of Best Brown Bread were in the oven even before Tirzah woke this morn. (Not to mention she slept until 1030!! I think she was worn out with fun after spending the evening with 4 other children)
I delighted in surprising Daniel with this coffee cake upon his arrival home. It looks beautiful with the cake dome in the middle of the island.
Sour Cream Coffee Cake
Preheat to 350
Generously grease a bundt pan
Mix together:
1 C softened butter
1 1/2 C sugar
8 oz sour cream (or I used yogurt this time!)
2 eggs
1 t vanilla
Mix together and then add to the wet ingredients:
2 C flour
1 t powder
1/4 t salt
1/2 t soda
For the topping mix together:
1 C. chopped walnuts/pecans
2 t sugar
1 T cinnamon
In bottom of greased pan, place 1/3 of the topping mixture followed by a layer of batter. Alternate layers of topping with batter, ending with batter.
Bake for 45 minutes or until an inserted tester comes out clean.
Allow to cool 5-10 minutes in pan and then invert the cake onto drying rack to allow completion of cooling.
Tirzah and I were slicing the almonds in preparation to make Daniel's beloved Biscotti, but we realized we had no oranges for the orange peel. So, we whipped up another batch of Brown Bread. Indeed it was a wonderful girl's day, together proclaiming His faithfulness while being nourished and thus...
delighted
